Secretary-General visits the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic

On the morning of 3rd March, Mr. Zhang Zongwu, Secretary-General of our foundation, visited the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic, at the invitation of the Embassy’s Minister Mr. Mhd. Hasanein Khaddam. Both sides had a pleasant meeting together.
Secretary-General first expressed his gratitude towards the warm welcome from Mr. Mhd. Hasanein Khaddam. He briefly introduced our business scope, resource advantages and great achievements. He pointed out that under the One Belt and One Road Initiative, our Foundation will keep forging closer ties with embassies of the countries along the routes by holding forums, seminars, salons and other trade activities in order to help Chinese companies better understand the investment environment of Silk Road countries, as well as facilitate economic common development. He mentioned that , as a Western Asian country, Syria has many similarities with Northern African countries. Our foundation can assist Syrian Embassy to build closer contacts with African countries by making use of our rich experience and resources towards African countries. He emphasized that Syria and our foundation are both windows for information exchanges. He hoped that we will deepen our partnership and realize mutual development.
Mr. Mhd Hasanein Khaddam first welcomed our Secretary-General to visit their embassy. He briefly introduced Syria, and its competitive industries as well as investment environment. He pointed out that China and Syria have long standing friendship, we have established our diplomatic ties since 61 years ago. Syrian Government thanked China for its support in global arena. Syria has a strategic location that connects Europe, Asia and Africa altogether. They have signed the Belt and Road agreement for governmental cooperation with China. Mr. Khaddam hoped to export more Syrian products to African and other overseas markets by making use of our successful experience. He highlighted that Syria has many competitive advantages in agricultural products, including fruits and vegetables and looks forward to more cooperation with Chinese companies in oil, steel and iron, food processing, construction and engineering, infrastructure and so on. He also said that Syria would like to invite more advanced technology and experience from China to achieve complementary cooperation and mutual development.
Last but not least, both sides discussed cooperative plans in details, and raised a new model, and expected to achieve better results in the future. At the end of the meeting, our Secretary-General invited Syrian Embassy to participate in our One Belt One Road Economic and Trade Salon to be held in March this year. Mr. Khaddam thanked our invitation, and expressed willingness to build upon our existing foundation.
This meeting has enhanced our friendship with Syrian Embassy and helped further implement One Belt One Road Initiative, and made positive contributions to the prosperous development in bilateral economic and trade.
