The 53rd Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Uganda
(1962-2015)held by the Embassy of Uganda took place on 9 October
2015. The Foundation’s president Zhang Yi and secretary-general
Zhang Zongwu were invited to the ceremony. Other participants
included diplomatic envoys, representatives of state enterprises,
Ugandan student artists and media.
The Ugandan Ambassador to China Mr. Charles Madibo Wagidoso
gave the opening speech. He talked on the uneasy path to the Ugandan
independence at the time in 1962 and emphasized the importance of
the China- Uganda diplomatic relationship. He thanked the Chinese
government for its support for Ugandan development and hopes that the
relationship will bring deeper cooperation and lasting friendship. During
the ceremony, Ugandan student artists performed hand-drum, which set
up a joyful atmosphere for the ceremony.
Secretary-general Zhang communicated with diplomatic envoys of
African countries, including diplomats from Senegal, South Sudan,
Cameron, Zambia and Somalia. Many of them have been the Foundation’s
longterm supporters and friends. They expressed their support for the
Foundation’s work. The diplomatic envoy from Cameron expressed
interests in introducing Chinese companies to their market overseas.
The ceremony set up an opportunity for conversations between
diplomatic envoys of governments, representatives of companies, and
between representatives of governments and companies under a positive
historical background.
