Secretary General Zhang visited Khek Caimealy, Ambassador of the Republic of Cambodia
to China, on 27 October. They exchanged opinions about the bilateral trade under the
background of One Belt, One Road initiative.
Cambodia locates in the South Central Peninsula of Southeast Asia, having rich mineral
resources. It is not only a member country of the Maritime Silk Road, but also One Belt,
One Road initiative. Ambassador Caimealy introduced that, Cambodia has suffered from
longterm war, so it needs much support for reconstruction. Among the countries that
contribute support for its reconstruction, China is among the most important one. Ambassador
Caimealy said that, Cambodia is an agricultural country, so agricultural machinery and
agricultural products are major directions of trade. Cambodia particularly needs Chinese
agricultural technology to upgrade its agriculture. Besides, Ambassador Caimealy also
introduced about the investment climate for transportation and medical facilities. She said that
she hope the Cambodian Embassy will work with our institution to build more connections
between Cambodia and other countries under the background of One Belt, One Road.
SecretaryGeneral Zhang highly agreed with the direction of cooperation pointed out by
Ambassador Caimealy and he also introduced specific cases of our institutions’ work in
such fields. SecretaryGeneral Zhang said that, our institution is confident in finding common
interest points and he hopes to introduce China’s products and technology to Cambodia and
many more regions and countries. Finally, Secretary-General Zhang invited Ambassador
Caimealy to visit our office to further discuss future cooperation.
